A fatty liver means fat has built up inside liver cells, usually found on a routine ultrasound with no symptoms at all. It's closely tied to weight, insulin resistance and diet. Homeopathic treatment works on the metabolic pattern behind it, alongside practical diet and weight guidance. Book a consultation with Dr. Chhavi Bansal today.
What is a Fatty Liver?
Your liver is meant to have a little fat in it. A fatty liver, medically called non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or NAFLD, is when that fat builds up to more than 5 to 10 percent of the liver's weight. Doctors usually grade it 1 to 3 on ultrasound, grade 1 being mild.
Most people find out by accident. It shows up on a routine abdominal ultrasound done for something else entirely, and the report just sits there with no explanation attached. No pain, no yellow skin, nothing you'd notice on your own.
Here's the part that catches people off guard. You don't need to drink alcohol to get a fatty liver. The non-alcoholic type is now the most common liver condition in India, and it's closely linked to the same insulin resistance that drives PCOD and pre-diabetes.
Symptoms of Fatty Liver
Early fatty liver usually has no symptoms. When something does show, it tends to be vague:
Causes of Fatty Liver
Fatty liver rarely has one single cause. It's usually a mix of these building up over years:
- Insulin resistance : the same pattern behind PCOD and pre-diabetes, where the body's cells stop responding well to insulin and fat gets stored in the liver
- Being overweight : especially fat carried around the belly, which sits close to the liver
- Diet : too much refined sugar, maida, fried food and sugary drinks
- Sedentary lifestyle : long hours sitting, little daily movement
- Underlying thyroid or hormonal issues : an underactive thyroid or PCOD often travels alongside a fatty liver
- Genetics : some people develop it even at a normal weight, particularly with a family history
If Fatty Liver is Left Untreated
- Progression to inflammation of the liver (steatohepatitis)
- Gradual scarring of liver tissue (fibrosis)
- In a smaller number of cases, progression to cirrhosis over many years
- Higher long-term risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease
- Worsening of any existing PCOD or thyroid imbalance
How Homeopathy Treats Fatty Liver
Conventional medicine has no specific drug approved just for fatty liver. The standard advice is weight loss, a change in diet, and more activity, which genuinely works, but is hard to stick to without support. Most people are simply told to come back for another scan in a year.
Homeopathy takes a different route. It treats the metabolic tendency behind the fat build-up, the insulin resistance, sluggish digestion and weight pattern, based on your overall constitution, while giving you a real plan to follow rather than a vague instruction to eat better.
- Works on insulin resistance and the metabolic pattern behind the fat build-up
- Supports gradual, sustainable weight loss rather than crash dieting
- Eases digestive sluggishness and bloating that often come with it
- Treats any linked PCOD or thyroid imbalance alongside it
- No side effects, safe with any medication you're already on
The treatment is completely personalised. Dr. Chhavi Bansal looks at your weight history, diet pattern, activity levels, sleep and any related hormonal conditions, then prescribes a remedy specific to your constitution.
Dr. Chhavi's Approach to Fatty Liver
She'll ask about far more than your liver ultrasound. Your weight over the years, your typical day's meals, how much you move, your sleep, and whether PCOD, thyroid or pre-diabetes run in the family (fatty liver rarely shows up alone).
Alongside the medicine, she gives you a practical, doable diet and activity plan, not a generic list telling you to just eat healthy.
One honest note. Grade 1 and grade 2 fatty liver generally respond very well to treatment and lifestyle change. Grade 3, or any sign of liver inflammation on your blood tests, needs closer monitoring alongside a physician, and Dr. Chhavi will tell you plainly if that's the case for you.
