All about wisdom tooth

The third and the final sets of molars are known as wisdom tooth. If these teeth are healthy and well aligned they are valuable to your dental assets and if they are not properly aligned it requires removal.

Adjacent teeth may get damaged if the wisdom tooth is not properly aligned. Wisdom teeth are enveloped with the soft tissues of the gums and can erupt only partially. These are more prone to gum diseases and tooth decays.
As they are only partially erupted and their erratic positioning in one’s mouth makes it difficult to brush. Dentist can be consulted or an X –ray can be taken to evaluate and access whether there is any problem and if extraction of wisdom tooth is required.

After the wisdom tooth is extracted within a day one may experience symptoms like:

1. Bleeding
Bleeding can take place for a few hours. Clean and gargle often. Pressure needs to be applied in that area for at least 45 minutes.
2. Face may swell
Your face may swell at the area where the tooth is extracted. To minimize this apply ice on the swelling.
3. Pain Relief
In case of pain take a pain reliever medicine as prescribed by your dentist.
4. Antibiotics
Some anti-biotic is suggested by doctors to treat infection around the wisdom tooth before its extraction.
While extraction of wisdom tooth one should be very careful as nerves can be bruised or damaged during this process. As a result sometimes it may make lips, chin or the tongue numb for a few days or a few weeks.
